Caomhnú

What are Irish rural communities thinking and doing about climate change and climate action?

Caomhnú is a storytelling project exploring Irish rural communities’ perspectives on climate change and climate action. It was created after learning from rural community members in the ROAM project. Many people living in rural areas feel like their voices are not included in conversations about the climate crisis, even though the regions they live in are already experiencing difficult climate-related changes. Take part in the Caomhnú project through the link below and share your stories!

Caomhnú is Irish for the conservation of history, culture and nature. Ireland has a long and rich history of storytelling.

Caomhnú amplifies these important location-based expertise and climate actions through our interactive map. Stories that we recieve are uploaded here, with your voice or the voice of our storyteller Órla McGovern. Check out all the stories shared so far!

Through travelling to different rural and remote locations across Ireland during summer 2024, we collected stories in person and online from 34 different citizen scientists. They reflected on their perspectives of climate change, their current climate actions and their hopes for the future of their communities. Our video shares some of these stories:
